Traditional methods for monitoring children’s communication development often require removing them from their natural settings—such as classrooms or homes—to perform standardized assessments. However, the client aimed for a more holistic approach that evaluates a child’s speech during real-life interactions with peers, teachers, and parents, supported by technology.

Effective communication is vital for children’s growth across personal, academic, and social domains. Speech and language disorders—such as expressive language disorder, social communication disorder, and childhood-onset fluency disorder can severely impact development if left unaddressed. Early intervention is therefore critical.

The client’s initial goal was to develop a user-friendly, child-focused system capable of capturing responses via audio in an engaging and non-intrusive way.

Omega Strategy

Omega proposed creating an interactive, voice-based game called the Matterhorn Game, hosted on Amazon’s AWS voice interaction platform, Alexa. The game was designed to be both educational and entertaining, leveraging dynamic visuals and auditory engagement to hold children’s attention.
Key technologies integrated included Java, Alexa Skills Kit, AWS Lambda, and Firebase. Supporting tools and platforms such as Eclipse, MySQL, and both web and voice interfaces were also utilized.

Game elements like “dice” were incorporated to boost cognitive engagement, fostering mathematical reasoning and social interaction skills development. Simultaneously, voice data collected during gameplay enabled linguistic analysis aimed at improving children’s accents, pronunciation, and grammar.

To maximize impact, Omega developed a targeted marketing strategy to ensure accessibility and appeal across diverse socioeconomic groups. Data analytics tailored game content to address various communication disorders, while bespoke digital marketing materials supported the client’s global expansion ambitions.
