American Samoa Waste Management

Green Ops, Inc. is partnering with Omega Consulting to tackle one of the most pressing environmental issues in American Samoa – waste management. With limited disposal facilities and no RCRA Subtitle D state-approved program, waste management planning and implementation are critical components for the region. The Port has been a significant source of waste, including sludge and operational/cargo waste. However, MARPOL Annex V regulations prohibit the discharge of any garbage into the sea, requiring ship-generated waste and cargo residue to be safely disposed of and managed properly.

Green Ops, Inc.’s waste management system is the solution needed to efficiently manage waste from vessels, directly impacting environmental costs and benefits. The system will minimize and avoid the potential consequences of operational and illegal discharges of oil/fuel, sewage, toxic cleaning products, and garbage from vessels into Pago Pago Harbor. It will ensure environmental protection and a viable economic infrastructure for waste management while fulfilling the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Annex V.

The strategy and analytics team at Omega Consulting will develop the structure and strategic guidance for the organization. This partnership will not only provide a solution to the waste management problem in American Samoa but will also establish Green Ops, Inc. as an approved establishment to eliminate and reduce the amount of garbage being discharged into the sea from ships.

With Green Ops, Inc. and Omega Consulting working together, American Samoa can expect a cleaner and healthier environment. This partnership is a significant step towards sustainable waste management, and we are proud to be a part of this initiative.
